PHILIPPA PEARCE
The author of modern classics such as Tom's Midnight Garden and A Dog So Small has died at the age of 82. Philippa was the youngest of four children and spent an idyllic childhood playing around the family mill house on the upper reaches of the River Cam. Her book, Minnow on the Say was inspired by these childhood memories. She wrote over thirty books in all, her most famous book, Tom's Midnight Garden won the Carnegie Medal. She had a daughter, sally and The Battle of Bubble and Squeak was inspired by her daughter's gerbils.
