MALCOLM ROSE
The author Malcolm Rose visited on January 30th to talk to years 7 and 8 about his TRACES series of books. The series is set in a parallel Britain where the North of the country is the cultural centre and London is a derelict 'no go' area. Luke Harding is a 16 year old forensic investigator who solves some pretty nasty crimes with his robotic sidekick Malc. Check out Malolm's website to find out some more about his books.
We had a great morning with Malcolm and the years 7 and 8 showed themselves to be pretty good at forensic science as they noted the 'clues' Malcolm left during his talk.

Christmas films and movies
The Golden Compass
I wonder how many of you saw this film over the Christmas holidays? If you did, come and tell me what you thought of it. I enjoyed it but was shocked at the ending! I expect many of you who have read the book, feel the same way. The 'cut' ending will apparently appear at the start of the next movie in the trilogy.
Ballet Shoes
Did anyone see this super adaptation of one of my favourite books by Noel Streatfield.
Shadow in the North
Billie Piper starred again as detective Sally Lockhart in Philip Pullman's Victorian London. There are four books in this series, all of which are on display in the library.

The Golden Compass
I can't wait to see the movie of the book 'Northern Lights'. There is an excellent website where you can answer some questions and find out what daemon you would have. I ended up with a chimpanzee! Linking with the movie there will be some activities in the library after the exams. There is a 'fortune-teller' to make to find out your daemon and an alethiometer to spin. If you haven't read the book, it is a gripping fantasy story. Why not try and read it before you see the movie. To visit the website, click on the link below:

Julia Golding
Years 5 and 6 had a fantastic morning with the author Julia Golding. With year 5, Julia talked about her fantasy series 'The Companions Quartet' and with year 6, she talked about her series of historical stories about 'Cat Royal.' Both talks were interactive and involved some of the audience dressing up as characters from her books. We had a great time!

JULIA GOLDING
The author Julia Golding is visiting Pinewood on November 6th to talk to all of years 5 and 6. Julia is a fantastic author and her most recent book, Ringmaster, is one of my favourites. I have also loved her fantasy series, The Companions Quartet. You can see copies of all Julia's books in the Boddington library, or why not visit her website for more information. We are looking forward to her visit.

Competition winners!
Well done to everyone who entered either of the library competitions running in October. The first competition was linked to National Children's Book Week and you were asked to design a poster encouraging people to read. As the theme of Book Week was the environment, the poster had to show books and reading somewhere in the natural world.
The winner of the poster competition was Amy Cooper
Runners-up were Eliza Lindsay and Isobelle Bailey
Highly commended was Jessi O'Grady
The second competition was linked to National Poetry Day, the theme of which this year was dreams.
The winner of the competition to write a poem linked to the theme was Josh Meyer.
All winning entries are on display in the Boddington Library.

Roald Dahl Day
September 13th is Roald Dahl Day. This fantastic author is being celebrated by events taking place in schools, bookshops and libraries up and down the country. Do you have a favourite Roald Dahl book? How much do you know about Roald Dahl? You can test your knowledge of this author and his books by having a go at the grand quiz. Pick up a quiz sheet from the library counter.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
I know that lots of you have finished the final part of the Harry Potter series and I haven't met anyone who has been disappointed with the book. I queued up at my local bookshop at midnight on the wettest day of the year, having driven through floods to get there. It was all worth it and I enjoyed every page of the book. I'm not going to say anything about it here as I don't want to spoil anything for those of you who haven't finished it yet. Come and see me in the library for some 'Harry Potter' chat! I look forward to hearing your views. (Mrs Matthews)

TINTIN MOVIE

Tintin, the heroic young journalist and adventurer created by Belgian cartoonist Hergé, is set to take to the silver screen again — this time with the help of Steven Spielberg.
Spielberg and his company DreamWorks have committed to produce at least one Tintin movie. It is still unclear which of Tintin's adventures — depicted in 24 books — will be filmed.
A completed movie won't appear until 2009 or 2010.

Roman Mysteries
Some of you may remember Caroline Lawrence's visit to Pinewood. Caroline is the author of 'The Roman Mysteries', a series of books about four friends set in Roman times. The books are very popular at Pinewood and some people have read all of them so far - there are a couple more still to be published. Some of the titles have been made into a BBC television series on a Tuesday at 4.30pm. To find out more about the series, you can visit Caroline's website or click on the link below.
