The Henrietta Branford Writing Competition is held annually for young people in conjunction with the prestigious Branford Boase Award for debut children's fiction.
The competition is open to any young writer under the age of 19. Six winners are invited to the celebration party in London at which the Branford Boase Award is given. There they can meet authors, editors, publishers, agents, and other professionals in this field. Entrants must complete a story begun by last year's winner, Frances Hardinge, author of Fly by Night, and submit it by Friday 25th May.

BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA

Bridge to Terabithia is about two lonely children who create a magical forest kingdom. Written by Katherine Paterson, it was first published in 1977, and won the, American prize for outstanding children's literature, the Newbery Medal in 1978. It tells the story of fifth grader Jesse Aarons, who befriends new girl Leslie Burke when he loses a race to her. A film of the book has just been made by Disney. CARNEGIE AND GREENAWAY SHORTLISTS

The shortlists for the 2007 Carnegie Medal for outstanding children's literature and the Kate Greenaway Award for illustration have just been announced. Most of the Carnegie books are for teenagers of 14+ years and consequently won't all be appearing in the Boddington library. However we do have Anne Fine's latest book, 'The Road of Bones' which I found quite harrowing to read.
You can see the shortlisted books by clicking on the links below:
