PETER PAN IN SCARLET

The award winning author Geraldine McCaughrean has written a sequel to J.M. Barrie's classic story, Peter Pan. Geraldine won a competition to write the sequel and her book has been published simultaneously in 38 countries. The plot has been kept secret until now. The Lost Boys are now Old Boys who return to Neverland by putting on their children's clothes. A world tour to promote the book beckons and film deals will probably follow.
We are very fortunate to have Geraldine visiting us at Pinewood on January 15th 2007.

NATIONAL POETRY DAY

National Poetry Day falls on October 5th and the theme this year is IDENTITY. There is a national competition for children to write a poem on the theme of ME. At Pinewood we will also be running a competition in the library. Entry details are available from the library counter, which also gives some ideas on getting started with your poem. The closing date is 20th October (the Friday before half term) and winning poets will receive a free book of their choice from the Book Fair after half term. PASSPORT TO THE WORLD OF BOOKS

Quite a number of children have already completed their reading passports by reading one title from each of the following genre; fantasy, historical, humour, adventure and a view of the world (stories set in a different country). They have collected stickers, book marks, pencils, badges and postcards along the way.
The reading challenge is running all term so there is plenty of time for new children to join in.
